I have been teaching in San Diego for 20 years and it is an incredible privilege to now be a part of the HTeNC community. My philosophy of teaching is shaped by my love and advocacy for STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math), the students in front of me, and a desire to continue to grow as an educator. I am very excited to be teaching engineering because it inspires creativity, exploration, curiosity, risk taking, collaboration, and joy. I love how the learning in the lab hums with energy: When the enthusiasm rises during an investigation or in a student’s delight trying out new vocabulary; when I hear the excitement in student testimonials about the engineer-y things they are exploring at home or when I am brought a warn out household appliance to dissect with the class. I consider these moments as evidence of great success!
Here are some other things you might want to know about me... I live in Pacific Beach with my wonderful family–my husband, Michael, our far-from-mellow dog, Max, Shakespeare the guinea pig, and our cat, e”Quin”ox. Our daughter has just headed off to college. This will be a huge year for her (and me) as she moves across the country to go to school at Oberlin College in Ohio. In addition to missing her terribly, I am working on completing my master's degree in STEAM education. I practice yoga and love reading, snow skiing, hiking, and playing at the beach with my family. We travel whenever we can. This is my contact information: HTeNC (619) 243-5014 https://twitter.com/MDeGraff5 |
